About SISD Athletics

Philosophy
The Socorro Independent School District supports extracurricular activities that offer worthwhile and significant contributions to the student's personal, physical and social development (SISD Policy Manual, FM).

The University Interscholastic League believes that students enjoy the pursuit of excellence and seek opportunities to test themselves, that opportunities are best provided through equitably administered competitive activities and that the classroom is enriched by the flow of student energy into the more intensified arena of competition and back into the classroom.
It is my belief that athletics serve as a pathway to a person's healthy psychological and physiological development. For some individuals it is the springboard to success. For others it is one of the activities that gives fullness and meaning to the secondary school experience. The various middle school and high school sports venues serve as laboratories in which the lessons of winning and losing become intertwined through acts of agility, endurance, speed, strength and skill. The interscholastic athlete has the opportunity to earn respect through fair play and genuine effort. Good sportsmanship is based on the giving and receiving of respect. Participation in UIL sports is a privilege to be en"joy"ed.
